Customer ReviewsBy The Truth We bought this item as a way of saving a few dollars over the well established Vita Mix blender, and boy were we sorry, and quickly returned it. After having seen the demo of the Blend Tec we thought that it seemed to be on the same level, but after getting the unit home and trying it on several different concoctions, we found that it truly was unworthy of the money we paid for it, and returned it within about 10 days of it's purchase. The lid was awkward, difficult to seat in the top. It was overly noisey. You don't need a vortec engine to power a blender, although this has one. If you don't watch it constantly while using it it will work it's way right off your counter. Upon start up, it goes from zero to bazillion in .000009 seconds, so you better have a handle on it from the get-go. And clean up is not as easy as they make it sound. It seemed to smell of an overly worked electrical component also, when trying to grind up ice or carrots, but maybe that was because it was still new and working off it's "new car smell". It was too much disappointment for us and for a blender, we didn't want to get stuck with a $400.00 piece of kitchen real estate that would eventually end up in the thrift store. By Ryan J. Hughes (Las Vegas, NV) I bought a Blendtec and used it for about 2 weeks then sent it back. What a disaster! I love making my own nut butters and with the Blendtec it is such a pain. I have also noticed that is is horrible blending frozen fruit and whole fruits. I have a friend that used to own a Jamba Juice and they used to use Blendtec but had so many problems they went strictly with a Vita-Mix. I saw the Vita-Mix demo at a Costco and realized why all the smoothie shops use them. They are so much more durable, versitile, and easy to use. They circulate better, their warranty is so much better and their customer service is better. I have been using the Vita-Mix for years now and I love it. I use it everyday! It is the best machine I have ever bought By P. Winters (Oak Harbor, Ohio) I bought the unit a couple of months ago thinking that I would make smoothies once in a while. I do. I also use it to mill flax, grind pepper, liquify onions and garlic for recipes (my kids hate finding any onion in their food). I even made pate in it. But not only do I use it but the kids use it at least two or three times a day for smoothies or shakes. So far, no complaints and the novelty has NOT worn off. It makes a great iced cappucino too! Make margaritas like the pros! Its a lot of money, but I think its worth it. I've tried the vitamix 5000 and prefer the blendtec. By Jon S. White (Ohio, USA) This blender is the worst blender I have ever tried, and I'm stuck with it because the seller doesn't take them back. I will post videos of the miserable failure of this blender to mix anything but pampered preparations of ingredients, and by pampered I mean cut and manipulated so that this blender will grab them and mix them. It is just horrible at blending fruits and vegetables, as the blade design leaves things just sitting there. Put an apple in one and just turn it on. It won't blend it a bit. Put apple quarters and a banana in and it won't blend it a bit. $100 blenders will, but this one won't most of the time. Add to this three other problems, and you have a horrible product for the price. I'm not kidding. I wanted this to work, having paid so much. Lid design is very poor. You can't take it off without disturbing the blender so much that it comes off the axle. Startup is an out-of-control, gushing pulse that will send liquids out the top every time. So, if you blend some ingredients and want to then put other ingredients in while it is stirring, you will have to put the top on to get the thing going before you remove it again and add ingredients. The shape of the blender vessel creates vortices which spill liquids out the top at even the lowest speeds. Adding ingredients to a mix will most of the time lead to spillage on your shirt, arms and countertop. The 50-second timed shutoff is a nuisance. You might be adding ingredients to a blended mix and have to RESTART to finish, and restarting means dealing with the horrible startup pulse. In general, this blender will not blend raw fruits and vegetables without you adding liquids that you might not want and stopping to push and minipulate the contents so that they blend. This blender seems to be missing all the elements that a well-thought-out $400 product should offer. I use a $100 blender to do all the work I hoped this one would do. By quiver of 8 I wanted to like this but am returning it tomorrow. It had nice containers (I thought) was smaller, and the ez touch pad) I bought the EZ as it comes with 2 containers. this was the ONLY difference vs other blendtec according to the company. NOT so though, as the EZ lacks any recipes(some models include a book). this may have turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I had a vitamix for 12 yrs so I used my vitamix recipes in the blend tec. it is supposed to be a 64 oz container like the vitamix but it will NOT hold 64 oz without over flowing. Tried smoothies, soup and the vitamix holds more! Also some smoothies got stuck and you NEED a pusher or at least a spoon. the auto sut off can be a pain as its not realy that "smart" just timed. it will shut off even if its not done! I was so unhappy I got my vitamix repaired (they will fix out of warranty machines for $95). I then gave the blendtec one more try making bread using the BLEND tec recipe from the website to be fair. I wish I had taped this one. the blend tec repeated over heated, then over loaded. it heated so much that the dough (I had to pull it out, it never formed the ball on the blades). All in all I used every recipe on the blend tec site as well as some from vitamix and the 12 yr old , repaired vitamix (with a 12 yr old container no less) out performed the blend tec every time. vitamix customer service was better as well. I am STILL waiting for any answer from blendtec about a recipe book or the lack of one! Meanwhile my vitmix was shipped, repaired and shipped back. blend tec must know there is a problem with the containers as they recently made a supposedly 96 oz one (probably holds 64!) IF I could have gotten a larger container and a book I might have kept it but its not available for this model. If you really want an ez touch pad buy a waring mx1300 series, they even can use vitamix containers! |
